Stewart Raffill Before Sci Fi became "SyFY", Saturday evenings were motion picture event nights because one could rely on a high quality production being presented, a film of intelligence and intellectually challenging. That was before the days of Mega Shark vs. Dinocroc and Sharknado. This is one of those fine films from those fondly remembered days. Directed by the gifted Stewart Raffill and starring respected actor Michael Madsen, this is a film that is well produced on location in Thailand and is highlighted by a masterful script by renown screenwriter Ken Solarz. It is a powerful story about a killer crocodile threatening to destroy the indigent peoples and the tourists alike. The atmosphere of fear and dread is almost unendurable and the intensity of the action overwhelming. What make this film especially unique is the focus on the humanity, the inner lives of a people facing a fight for survival they were ill prepared for. Madsen does of his finest work in years and the entire cast is superb.

I was flipping through movie channels, looking for something to watch & Croc was about to come on in 5 minutes so I thought, why not? The description sounded interesting & it had been given 3 stars so it had to be an OK movie, right? Wrong!!! How & why did this movie get 3 stars? The only reason at all I can think of that this movie got 3 stars was the scenery.I can understand if it got 1 or 2 stars, but 3? Croc was a complete & total time waster.The thing that really got me was how huge the croc was at times, but other times it was normal size.Most of all it wasn't scary looking.After it was over I wondered why did I sit through the whole thing? The best thing I can say about Croc is at least I didn't have to pay to see it.If I did, I would've wanted my $$$ back.I can't recommend anybody go see this movie unless you're a Syfy channel movie fanatic or you LOVE extremely bad creature features.There are better creature features out there, I'd suggest watching 1 of those & skipping this 1

I'm not sure why this flick was on the Sci Fi Channel, other than it was a "creature feature." There was no science involved, and perhaps, not all that much fiction. Salties (Crocodylus porosus) grow quite large and eat a bunch of people every year. Oh, yeah, they did use "science" to explain why our demonic reptile was so far north. Global Warming strikes again! The cast/script was replete with (relatively) believable human villains, heroes, and attractive, not over-clad, young women -- although Marsden is getting a little long in the tooth for this sort of thing, and Jack has all those greasy, unshorn locks. The writers forsook the opportunity to play the "Jaws" theme, including only a minor modicum of mild mutterings about the loss of tourist revenue (vice the loss of tourists, themselves). There is an evil critter to go along with the evil villains, and in one of the primo scenes, the critter eats the villains. Great stuff! And the critters, both real and mechanical, are well done. No hand puppets in this cast of rapacious reptiles. When our heroes finally get around to serious killer critter pursuit, they go after with a rubber boat, scuba gear, and bang sticks. Not my choice of gear, no siree. I'm more like PT boat, depth charges and RPGs. But what do I know -- Dundee used a knife. Everything in this movie seems to work -- given the armament issue -- except the ending. Three of our heroes, two badly chewed, wind up in an underground chamber, out of air, with only an underwater egress. Change scenes, they're back in the boat, motoring off into the sunset. Hummm... The worst thing I can say about this movie is that all the women looked seriously underfed. Maybe that's because the croc was eating everything in sight ;o) Well, there was a minor problem about accents. All the main Thai actors and actresses spoke excellently understandable English, mostly with an American accent. One younger girl, however, had an Aussie/New Zealand accent, although her sisters' accents were quite Americanized. Good Movie. Not "Godzilla" or "King Kong," but good.

A 20-foot croc terrorizes Krabi, Thailand, while an egotistical mogul tries to put a private zoo out of business by blaming the croc attacks on smaller crocs from the zoo. Peter Tuinstra plays the protagonist, who runs the croc farm while Sherry Edwards appears as his romantic interest, an agent from the animal welfare department. Michael Madsen shows up in the second half as a formidable croc hunter. "Croc" (2007) is a TV movie that only cost $750,000, but it's a surprisingly compelling crococator flick, all things considered. The highlight is the unique setting of west coast, Thailand, and life thereof. Sure, some of the acting by Asian unknowns is questionable, but if you roll with it, you'll get over it. Tuinstra makes for a likable protagonist while Madsen does well in what is a cheap gig. The cast of women are interesting, but the filmmakers coulda done better as far as feminine appeal goes. The film runs 1 hour, 40 minutes and was shot in Krabi, Thailand. GRADE: B-/C+

Another crappy croc movie, off the coat tails off the coat tails of 'Lake Placid', Another one that features some terrible C.G.I effects. It's not the kind of film i'm going to go for, although I love crocodiles for real and have seen better films in the same genre.

Okay little sci-fi channel monster flick, following the familiar pattern established by "Jaws", with Michael Madsen in the Robert Shaw role of a veteran croc specialist hunting for a large saltwater crocodile that's eating humans within the radius of it's underwater cavernous lair, near a Thai coastal village. The film features greedy corrupt land developers(of course) wanting a croc farmer(..who operates a successful tourist zoo with lots of wild game other than just it's feature attractions), Jack McQuade(Peter Tuinstra)to vacate the premises so that they can confiscate his land for their own financial services. When Jack refuses, they try other desperate measures to force his hand, such as cutting the power, even attempting to run over his sister whose personal funds help sustain his business. When the giant crocodile starts attacking innocent people close to shore, McQuade will join forces with Croc Hawkins(Madsen), a lead-legged hunter with a grudge(..he has a score to settle with the beast, photographs of the many victims it has taken, taped inside his boat's cabin)to find and kill the predatory scavenger. I have to say that Croc, unlike other films of it's type, has some successful attack sequences. I think really only one major sequence looks rather unrealistic, more obvious a CGI concoction when the crocodile attempts to snatch a girl with a puppy in her hand as it bursts through a wooden floor chomping air. I think a more effective attack occurs later within a pool, tearing into(..and apart)victims, leaving a lot of blood and body parts scattered. I thought when the crocodile secures victims in it's mouth, crunching them in one fail swoop, were actually rather well staged. The movie certainly delivers a steady supply of victims to be lunch for the crocodile. The film has a blooming romance between McQuade and a scientist, Evelyn(Sherry Phungprasert), hired initially to shut his zoo down, and Jack's nephew, Theo(Scott Hazell) with a local girl, Chompoo(Duangduean Kumphasee). Chompoo's sister is one of the crocodiles many victims. The film really highlights Thailand, using the people and land as a nice backdrop for this creature feature. Rather low IMDb rating, I've seen a hell of a lot worse than Croc, that's for sure. So-so finale is moderately suspenseful, if predictable. Madsen, while certainly a welcome presence, doesn't really have to flex any acting muscle, maintaining his usual persona of quiet cool.

Stuck with a series of professional crises, the owner of a croc farm and a group of locals team with a croc hunter to stop the rampaging crocodile leaving a trail of blood across Thailand. This was overall a pretty decent killer croc film with some really good points about it. One of its better elements is the rather impressive amount of attacks throughout here which has a large pull on the whole film. There's a wide variety of attacks here, from the brief ones like the attack on the fishermen in the lagoon or the chomping on the dock to get at the dog which are built-off surprise ambushes and shocks, while the more prolonged sequences throughout here from the family's encounter in the bay or their hunting party's first encounter out along the off-shore reefs that really showcase a lot of action within this. Both of these situations give this one some great points here by really making for a frantic pace that keeps the film at a brisk, enjoyable pace by managing enough attacks and encounters to keep this one quite exciting. That all of these attacks also brings in some really worthwhile blood and gore from the chomped-on bodies and severed limbs makes for some really good times here which makes this hold up somewhat against the few problems here. The biggest issues here is the fact that there's way too many subplots and alternate story lines that just drag out the film in the first half. The different issues between the gang-boss and the animal zoo isn't the slightest bit interesting, almost as much as his difficulty with the personnel in his own gang and really drag the first half out with these pointless rivalries and internal squabbling. Otherwise, this one really has a bit of schizophrenia about its titular creature which is quite distracting how this deals with the beast. While it's commendable to use real-life crocs here, there's a series of shots which not only fail to get the species right but also manages to flip between different ages as well. This one is played for both alligators and crocodiles of vastly different species, and on top of that the monstrous beast is played by full-size adults and babies which is quite distracting against the CGI and animatronic crocodile props for a wholly unsatisfying creature. These issues hold this one down. Rated R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.
