Monster Dog is a great movie.Great plot.Great music.Alice Cooper,which everyone knows,is a underrated actor.Some chilling music scenes,and when it comes down to it,if you're an Alice or just horror fan,rent it.

Sure the audio and budget and most plots were bad but for some reason I enjoy this one and I own it on VHS! Of course too I'm a die hard Alice Cooper fan but it doesn't mean I like him in every movie he's in. I mean I hated Prince of Darkness with a passion and he had a cameo in it as the leader of those demon zombies. I liked the creepy music in this and the ending was very sad and would especially upset Cooper fans like me. I love his tracks "Identity Crisis" and "See Me In the Mirror" and had to wait for years to own it on his boxed set The Life & Crimes of Alice Cooper" in 1999 as the songs were never released till then. Take this film for what it is. A fan from Spain wanted Alice to be in this movie as Alice himself was going through denial about being in it as he admits he's not an actor but was paid alot of money for it so you can't say no to that! Some people involved with making this film moved on to big mainstream films believe it or not under different names.

Monster Dog (1984) ** (out of 4) Alice Cooper plays the leader of a rock group who takes his band back to his hometown to shoot a new music video. Once there the group learns that the town is under attack by some mysterious murdering dogs but could it really be a werewolf? This Spanish production is also known as Leviatan and believe it or not the thing isn't too bad if you're a fan of Cooper's. The bad thing is that Cooper didn't get to dub his own voice so you have to hear someone else talking in his place but we do get a new Cooper song, which remained unavailable until a few years ago. The movie is from director Fragasso who is best known for co-directing several Italian films with the legendary Bruno Mattei including Hell of the Living Dead, Zombi 3 and Troll 2. All of those films have a notorious reputation so it's really shocking that this movie didn't turn out worst. The actual attacks are pretty lame and the blood level is rather low but the mystery is somewhat well handled and God knows this is certainly far from the worst werewolf film. I'm not sure why this title was selected for the American release unless the buyers only watched the opening twenty-minutes and actually thought the dogs were the big story as the werewolf part doesn't kick in until later in the film. Cooper turns in a decent performance but he's always been rather entertaining when appearing in films or doing his act on stage. The supporting players are all rather weak but no worse than what we normally see in a movie like this. Again, this is no lost masterpiece but fans of Cooper's should get a few kicks out of it.

CHEAP! Featuring one of the worst twists ever (Alice saying "I'm not a werewolf!", then getting attacked by it, then actually turning into the werewolf- his being the werewolf from the beginning!) and the most tasteless acting ever seen, forget this movie! Even the songs in it are crap. My view- don't bother! The settings are both unrealistic and dull. The "Monster Dog" itself is outright crap (looking like a posessed Dickey Knee). Forget it. Cheap, cheesy, and horrid. The only scary thing about this movie is the movie itself.

Yours truly is one of them sour people who's incredibly annoyed by the trend of inexperienced singers (mostly hip-hop & pop stars) getting lead roles in films just because they're immensely popular among teenage audiences. Although this mainly happens nowadays, lame directors have apparently always been recruiting music idols to make their insignificant movies look a little more appealing. No one less than shock-rocker Alice Cooper is the main attraction of this terribly inept yet hilariously amusing werewolf-vehicle, directed by the same guy who brought us the legendary bad flick "Troll 2". "Monster Dog" is not much better than "Troll 2", though. It's poorly scripted, unimaginably cheesy and almost half of the film is pure padding since there wasn't enough material to fill up a whole screenplay. Cooper's music video for "Identity Crisis" is repeated not once but twice, and there's another entire clip in the middle section of the movie. Alice Cooper stars as surprise a successful artist who takes his whole entourage with him for a trip to the region where he grew up in order to shoot a new music video. The sinister place brings back traumatic memories, however, as superstitious locals lynched Vince's father because they thought he was a werewolf. When mutilated corpses are discovered once again, the locals believe Vince is a werewolf too and begin to hunt down the entire group. Don't even consider watching "Monster Dog" in case you have little tolerance for lousy acting and horrible dubbing jobs. The dialogs are all irritatingly monotonous and entire cast is wooden as hell. Our good pal Claudio Fragasso (Clyde Anderson) doesn't even attempt to build up a suspenseful atmosphere, but at least there's some blood and delightfully phony werewolf-mutations to enjoy. The make-up effects are laughable and about the opposite of shocking, but hey, at least they provide the movie with a handful of memorable shlock-sequences, like the shotgun-head kill. Some of the interior settings as well as the fog-enshrouded landscapes look effectively eerie, but they're largely ignored in favor of the hip music sequences. "Monster Dog" is recommended to either fans of brainless & campy 80's horror, or die-hard admirers of Alice Cooper. This last group is probably responsible for the rather big number of 10/10 ratings.

Long scenes of weirdos trying to act like they care about whats happening around them when all they do is stare blankly at each other. The dubbing is just like the Saturday morning Kung fu shows with lips moving and no sound. Alice looks like one of the woman in this movie just with a BIG witch nose I hope they added that on during makeup cause that baby is huge, It scared the $&%X out of me more than the little kiddie makeup used during Halloween that they used to make this bore fest. I will say one good thing about this dumpster acting as a movie The Acting was great by the dogs they used! I see 45 Alice fans or just some Carmel covered nuts gave it a 10 that just shows you that Flies vote here to. I gave it 1 star out of 10 cause they don't have any thing lower.

Gonna start with saying this: Yes, it IS sad that Alice Cooper's voice is dubbed over, BUT they chose a good voice and it actually fits pretty good. I watched this movie yesterday and I was surprised, didn't expect it to be that good. Alice Cooper played the role good as hell, and the feel of the movie reminded me of movies I watched growing up. It's pretty easy to tell that it's an Italian director, but that's not bad, cause they can usually make a movie visual in a way that Americans can't. The werewolf-look might not be the best around, but they did what they could with what they had. By showing it as little as possible, but still showing it, they made it seem like it looked cooler than it probably did. I'm a huge werewolf fan, a 80's horror fan, Alice Cooper fan, gore fan, and a fan of a lot of other stuff in this film, and I wasn't let down. (Don't let the "gore fan" part trick you though, it's not a gory movie, but it has a couple of blood scenes) 7.5/10 (Giving it 8 on the vote above)

I LOVE this movie! It ROCKS! Alice Cooper turns in what I think is an EXCELLENT performance for a low budget flick. I especially love the music video in the first few minutes. That rules as well. I have seen this movie a lot, and immensely enjoy it. A favorite in my video collection! If you love Alice Cooper, this film is a must!!!!!!!!!

Why oh why did they dub over Alice Cooper's voice? I won't ever understand this. MONSTER DOG, taken into the right hands, could've been a pretty nifty werewolf flick. Instead, a hack talent directed this no-budget sloppy mess and the results can cure insomnia. Cooper plays a pop arist, who, along with a few friends travel back to his hometown to shoot a new music video. Just so happens the town's been overtaken by mad killer dogs (!) Where did these dogs come from? Why only recently are they on the rampage? Oh well. A forgivable flaw. I mean as long as the movie is entertaining, who cares? Right? Shoot, unfortunately it's a complete gab-fest. Nothing really happens until about an hour into the flick and then, when something does finally happen it isn't anything to write home about. The "special fx" are laughable at best, with quick shots of the werewolf (presumably to hide how amateurish looking it is. There's even a transformation sequence! AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON this ain't!) Gore is sparse, although I must say there was a rather graphic, realistic looking bite wound done to Cooper's shoulder that was mighty impressive looking. But, then I think about that ultra-fake shotgun-blast-to-the-head and suddenly realize the aforementioned effect was a total fluke. Characters are whiny and abnormally dumb. One girl walks off into the countryside for no apparent reason, despite the fact that she is fully aware of the mad dog warning. Best scene: Dream sequence where a woman is tormented by an old man caked in blood. She locks herself in a room where he relentlessly pounds on the door moaning to let him in. Eerie stuff. Otherwise, MONSTER DOG is hazily shot, blandly directed, featuring awful pop songs by Cooper himself, a boring music score and ATROCIOUS dubbing! Avoid!!
