This review will simply discuss what I've seen from this version, not comparing it to the original as I've not watched it yet.
The implications and household lifestyle of this film are very realistic. Yes, I know it doesn't happen in every household, but those of you that deny it happens at all should please consider that just because it doesn't happen in your household (from your perspective) doesn't mean it happens in other households.
Every family will have unique needs, but every person will have their individual needs as well. This movie shows the needs of our lead were consistently dismissed by her spouse and her father in law, along with her own family. Throughout the earlier parts of the film, you don't see that the new family are villainous. You see them acting as very normal people, with very normal conversations. The further and further you get, you see that little things that are "normal" in their household are very insensitive and hurtful to our lead.
The way they emphasized the cooking and cleaning scenes in the kitchen were really well done. It really made you feel the frustration being in her situation. For example, seeing her have to clean the table cause her husband had no table manners, and clean the kitchen because her husband and friend made a huge mess after cooking, and just experiencing all these frustrations with her was one of the highlights of this film.
The progression of Aishwarya's character, going from someone who simply accepted the ways of the house, to speaking up (in a respectful manner) for her interests and her wants was great to see, however the end of the film... felt rushed. If they had added more detail to her breaking point before ending, I think it would have been perfect for me. Ending with the cycle repeating again was hilarious and sad to see, as that is the reality of the situation. In many cases, the man can usually move on with their lives, remarrying, with no negative repercussions, which is great that they ended the movie with that.
It was an ending meant to piss off the watcher, and I was initially unsatisfied with it because of that, but upon reflecting I see why that choice was made and why that made sense as an ending.
