Emily Villarreal who plays Maddie, is a horrible actress in this movie. It's like she doesn't even move her mouth when she talks. All you see are teeth. So many better actresses could have played the part. I've never seen her in anything else but in this movie she's terrible. I could've done a better job blindfolded with a gag. I don't understand how they pick some of these actors for these lifetime movies. Her best friend Layla and Kevin were ok. The guy that played Paul was a horrible actor as well. They could've picked a better killer in my opinion. He was creepy but his language felt so scripted. I felt bad for Jazzy :-( At one point Maddie passes out in the middle of nowhere and comes home like nothing has happened. We don't know why or how. When she gets home, she plugs her camera into her computer with a smile. Like WTH. I hate that Kevin died. And Grace doesn't contribute much at all. She's there. She leaves and returns after everything has happened. And why don't any of the actors in Lifetime movies ever turn the lights on or lock the doors? And when they are trapped in a room why don't they break a window and climb out? They just go upstairs and lock themselves in a room. Maybe I need to write a script and send it in.

Well, some good some bad. Where to start? Three glaring mistakes- more than I have seen in any Lifetime movie. (See the goofs section for those.) The Paul character is just too over the top. Kind of like an 8th grader trying to fill a role as a crazed lunatic. Not believable whatsoever. The plot was passable but so disconnected from reality. Layla comes to visit but never stays the night- and always leaves after dark. A sure LMN formula for disaster. Maddie hits Paul three times with a shovel but does not bother to finish him off, I guess she is planning that the authorities will get there before he gets her. But this is another part of the LMN formula- when the good guys (or gals) have the opportunity to finish off the baddie, they never do. Another part of the LMN formula is that the female will hit the bed with a guy she hardly knows, and the sooner the better. Maddie fulfilled that part of the formula. (Also seems that Kaycee had done likewise.) The bright spot was Emily Roslyn Villarreal. Nice to look at, played the part well with appropriate emotion. She is the reason for the 5 star. Otherwise this movie would have been a 1 or a 2.

Maddie may have her personal demons, being nearly destitute and unable to remain in college because of such tough courses as microbiology. But this film demonstrates that she is nonetheless a survivor. Her fortitude is put to the test with her so-called landlord Paul, the husband of Maddie's Aunt Grace. Paul was diagnosed with "erotomania" after he became smitten with the model Kacee whom his wife Grace was using in her photography. The psychiatrist who made the diagnosis was later apparently murdered by Paul. But the truth is much worse because it turns out that Paul is a necrophiliac, having murdered Kacee and placed her carcass under the boxspring of his queen bed. From time to time, he airs out the room out with lavender. It is on that very same queen bed that Maddie couples with the neighbor Kevin with both parties unaware of what was under the mattress. It seemed bizarre that Kevin and Maddie were not content on the bed in her room. Like moths attracted to a light, they were driven to Paul's bedroom and that portentous queen bed. Early in the film, it becomes apparent to the viewer that we are in the genre of horror when Maddie takes a bath and blood comes pouring out of the spigot. Later, Maddie's bestie Layla is taking a shower, and the inevitable is about to occur that is reminiscent of Hitchcock's "Psycho." The crude dialogue of "Landlord from Hell," as well as the preposterous situations, resulted in a film caught in limbo between dark comedy and full-blown horror. This was an uninspiring and lackluster film.

Maddie is a college dropout and jobless. Her mother passed away recently and her dad left when she was 2. Maddie goes to stay with her Aunt Grace who lives in a secluded ranch house which also has a cute guy living next door and a wacked out husband named Paul who also acts as landlord for their home and their other properties. Aunt Grace is a photographer and she has an assignment in Africa so Maddie can stay while she's away rent-free until she can find a job. But Paul doesn't like it and does nothing to make her feel welcomed. In fact, as the movie progresses and Maddie discovers secrets about the house. Paul, and another girl who was a tenant there, he tries a lot of stuff to scare her and get her to leave!!! This movie had lots of continuity flaws and plot holes, overacting and a bad script. Couldn't wait for it to be over. Skip it!!!

The plot was ridiculous. I had hopes based on the description, bit the entire thing made no sense. "Maddie" drops/flunks out of college and goes to stay at her aunt's free place. The aunt is having issues with her husband (Paul) and also tells her there is no tv, internet (really?) or cell service. But there is a landline! Blah blah boring plot with a creepy Paul lurking, a "hot" neighbor and typical Lifetime plot. And how did the aunt get back from Africa so quickly?! Lol I'm sorry to say this, but the actress Emily Villarreal is AWFUL. With a valley girl voice bordering on Britney Spears twang and just poor skills, she made the movie worse. Just bad The actor playing Paul was ridiculous. So over the top, almost a cartoon villain. I usually like the "so bad they are good" Lifetime movies, but this was just bad. Do not recommend.

This movie took me by surprise. I was expecting the usual lifetime dumb girl, dumb set up, dumb dialogue, and it had ALL of those things but then it got really weird and that sucked me in big time. The bathtub scene freaked me out! I haven't seen anything like that on Lifetime!! The step dad was crazy but also pretty funny. I LOL'd several times, but then he'd get super creepy again like having sex with a dead body creepy! OMG! I was surprised they went there. Maddie could have been smarter. I don't know why they insist on making all these women so stupid! But overall I had a good time watching it and it kept my interest. This movie is Friday the 13th meets Nancy Drew. It didn't take itself too seriously and actually had some touching moments. Worth the watch and everyone was super pretty!!! I wish they had shown the cat.

Others have addressed the lead's not very good acting, but aside from that, why stay somewhere you clearly aren't welcomed? Who cares what Aunt Grace said? She and her husband were clearly have issues, so who would stay there in the midst of all that? With Grace not there? I could almost believe if AG was there, that Maddie would be more inclined to stay. She doesn't consider Paul her uncle. I think Paul even flat out stated he wasn't happy about her moving in. At a minimum, his demeanor towards her indicated it. How many incidents have to scare the crap out of you before you decide it's not worth it?! The blood in the plumbing would have done it for me and any other person with common sense. I eventually said life was too short and turned the movie off. On top of the sketch acting, it just wasn't an entertaining movie. I ended up reading a summary and read that her two friends (her bff and the new boyfriend) died, and that just made me less interested. So far, I think the only decent movie in 2023 Lifetime is Spinning Out of Control. P. S. May we PLEASE get new character names? No more Maddies, Emmas/Gemmas, Jacks, Haleys, Kats, Alexes, Nicoles, Brians, etc ad nauseum? I realize these are simple names that are easy to remember, but there are so many more. In fact, I just checked (I had a deja vu moment) and two of the 2023 movies had "Maddie" as the main characters' name. In the same month. Reminds me of a few years back when every other female character was named Zoe or Chloe. Just a pet peeve of mine since I use these movies as background noise for wfh. There are literally thousands upon thousands of other one or two syllable names that can be used.
