Apart from looking a Melina Matthew's beautiful face there's nothing elso to this movie. If you can call it a movie. To me it's more like a Mexican sup opera. Just awful.. Some crazy reviewet said it is like romancing the stone..NOT A HINT OF IT. ZERO.

The story is a blend of psuedo-scifi thriller and crime drama based melancholy. At first glance I was eager to check this one out, knowing that John Noble was apart of the cast. Been a fan since season one of Fringe. However, this film practical keeps him in queue, with limited character development and weak writing. It is a shame really because with the right development, Noble could have brought his character to life, and helped vitalize the story. Same with others, several familiar actors both recognizable and talented. The concept is a great scenario with its blend of human nature and tragedy, showing a very relatable balance between conflict and resolution set upon the backdrop of near supernatural circumstance. Unfortunately there is so much about the plot that is confusing, muddling the dramatic tendencies with questionable science fiction that raises more eyebrows than excitement. Even with the actors' committment to the project "Silencio" fails to ever pull you into the intended thriller elements. There isn't a lot happening as far as special effects. Most of the sci-fi aspects take place in the opening scenes with quick bursts of CGI. Beyond that the film relies mostly on monochromatic atmosphere both dark and moody. Situational moments and dialog are meant to solidify the breadth of science fiction stuff with slow paced drama and some crime thriller thrown in. Overall "Silencio" never really catches enough energy to be thrilling and the writing and tempo create a sedated experience. Which is sad because the idea and the cast were great enough to elevate the story's potential.

"Silencio" is an interesting thriller that makes use of science as a clever premise for a magical cobalt stone that will bring a loved one back to life. It is not truly a science fiction movie, but a drama sprinkled with a patina of science. There is good background presented on the The Mapimí Silent Zone in Mexico, which, according to legend, is a region that is unreachable by any type of radio signals or electronic communications. On July 11, 1970, there was a rocket crash on the site of the Bolson de Mapimí that led to a scare with radioactive debris that required a massive clean-up. A pilot named Francisco Sarabia was the first individual to identify the silence of the desert. The area is between the 26th and 28th Parallels and on a direct line with the Bermuda Triangle and the Pyramids of ancient Egypt. Dr. W. James Downs is mentioned in the film as the expert in this field of inquiry. There was also an earlier event in the Silent Zone that was the crash into earth of the Allende meteorite, a fireball that touched down over the Mexican state of Chihuahua on February 8, 1969. The film even suggests that the magical land in the barren Mexico desert was the location of another meteorite crash from the Jurassic era. With all of this background worked cleverly into the film with a scientist's lecture, "Silencio" might be re-titled "Jurassic Park in Desert." One of the scientists on the mission was a British chap, Dr. James White, who discovered a cobalt stone on site, which was probably debris from the Allende meteorite. Due to his butterfingers, he dropped the stone, which revealed its magical powers to him. The untoward result is that he saved the life of his granddaughter Ana, who is a psychiatrist and the film's protagonist. The film takes all of the scientific background and makes everything very simple for the audience to understand. The theme of the magical rock is that it "balances things out," giving a life back while taking one in return. The plot gets convoluted with a kidnapping, the attack on the kind grampa, an accidental act of infanticide, brutal revenge tactics with a fireplace poker, the appearance of ghosts from the past, and weapons drawn in a climactic shoot-out. All of the action is in the service of romancing the stone. Although the film tended to fall apart in logic at the end, it was nonetheless a good watch. The fresh faces of new actors was a treat, and the film was nicely conceived by a female writer-director. All of the roles were interesting, but I especially liked the eccentric but lovable grampa.

I have a problem with a conversation that happened but didn't happened between two characters at some point where in the first scene its more of a dramatic side and as a flashback it shows some information that wasn't spoken on the first scene and that threw me off of the plot for a bit. Aside John Noble's talent was wasted but it's kind of good movie

This movie is based on the real-life Mexican Zone of Silence, which shares the 27th parallel with the Bermuda Triangle, the pyramids at Giza and Tibet's sacred cities. It's a place where conversations stop dead, electronic devices stop working and supposedly aliens have been witnessed. Or it's totally a made-up legend for tourist bucks. In order to save her son's life, Ana must find a powerful stone that her grandfather found inside that very same Zone of Silence. But now, she's also learning more about her family, her life (and death) and the secrets of the Zone than she ever wanted to. Director Lorena Villarreal has only one other directorial credit, 2004's Las lloronas, made nearly 15 years before the Hollywood version that came out this year. Yet this was an assured and very interesting movie that asks, "What would you do if you had the power over life and death?" There's plenty of gorgeous scenery and some actual shocking moments. This one kept my attention from beginning to end.

Terrible storyline, bad directing and made even worse by the poor acting of the lead actress Melina Matthews. Why does she keep whispering even in scenes where she was supposed to be extremely furious? Pretty face, though.

This is probably the worst film ever made its up there with runaway bride the acting in this is laughable I guess some people really need the money to get involved in this garbage.
