From the opening credit sequence on, I was pleasantly surprised while watching The Apocalypse Box. So many low budget films have no plot, bad acting and look like the cinematographer had no idea what they were doing. I am pleased to say, Apocalypse Box had non of these issues! Director James Eaves did a great job with a modest budget bringing this story to life. Corrinne Wicks did a phenomenal job portraying a high strung politicians wife who only wants the approval of her husband. Lead actress Lola Knight sold the premise of the film with her grounded performance. If you are looking for a fun indie thriller that will make you jump, but still let you sleep tonight, then I suggest you give The Apocalypse Box a go.

First off it felt like the movie lasted 4 hours because you don't feel like anything is progressing, It is soon evident where it is going. So that only after a few minutes into this attempt at a movie. There's nothing left to do than to wait they all die. But if you have seen this type of film before you know that the ultimate price for using the box is the same for everyone involved : Death. The acting is not good, amateurish is the only word i can use. The score is one of the redeeming and rare things in the movie. The decor is almost nonexistent. So this movie was a big let down. So save yourself first and do not watch it.

Before I get into this review, this is not a Holywood blockbuster movie, so if your not a fan of smaller budget indie movies, this may not be the movie for you. If your going in for a fun indie horror experience, this is the movie. The mystery behind the box is one of the greatest parts of the movies. Whilst the true nature of the box is never fully explained in the movie, from the clues given we as an audience can fill in the holes and create our own theories of what the true power of the box. However, this movie would be in dire need of some sort of prequel about the box itself, rather than the characters who interact with the box, which could elevate the movie to it's next level.

The film seems to hoover between being a psychological thriller/horror and an action-driven story, but it never fully commits to either, leaving me (the audience) in a kind of limbo. The middle act drags on, with repetitive dialogue and a lack of significant plot progression. When the film finally reaches its climax, the payoff feels disappointing. The revelations about the box and its purpose are either too predictable or too vague, leaving many questions unanswered. Rather than providing a satisfying conclusion, the film's ending feels rushed and inconclusive, as if the filmmakers themselves were unsure of how to wrap up the story. Visually, the film is a mixed bag. While there are some striking shots that enhance the eerie atmosphere, other scenes are marred by inconsistent lighting and uninspired cinematography. The sound design, though effective in places, occasionally overreaches, using loud, jarring noises that detract from the subtlety the film tries to achieve. Conclusion: "The Apocalypse Box" is a movie with an intriguing concept that ultimately fails to deliver on its promise. It's a film that will likely leave viewers feeling more frustrated than thrilled. The overall experience is flawed by weak character development, uneven pacing, and an unsatisfying conclusion. For fans of mystery and thriller genres, it might be worth a watch, but don't expect it to be a film that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll. Rating: 3,5/10.
